Premier Li in Africa, to work with UNEP
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang had meetings with the UNEP and the UNHSP Executive Directors while visiting Africa.
The meetings covered a wide variety of topics including Environmental co-operation, growth with an understanding of environmental concerns and further connections with South-South groups.
The UNEP is the United Nations Environmental Program and the UNHSP is the United Nations Human Settlements Program.
China’s urban growth needs are at a point where for decades the countries expansion has created rather large cities and new cities spreading into rural areas. While the acceleration has been rapid, a slowing has occurred. This is an opportunity for China to retrofit the existing newer cities and develop the newest urban areas with green sustainable development in mind.
China is a member of the Group of 77 plus China and holds great sway in many UN agencies. China intends to share its knowledge through these groups and other multilateral relationships.
On this trip Premier Li Keqiang committed almost 18 Billion dollars in aid to Africa and expanded media co-ordination in Kenya.
