China and United States relations to strengthen
China’s President Xi Jinping and US President Barack Obama said they agreed to deepen their commitments to bi-lateral cooperation economically and on other substantive issues.
The world’s number one economy and the globes second largest economy met at The Hague in the Netherlands. China is very close to overtaking the US in GDP in PPP(purchasing power parity) terms. As a trading country, China is the largest exporter and importer in the world.
In a communique to President Xi Jinping, Mr. Jinping, revealed that he had carefully read the note which reiterated the US cooperation in growing “a new model of major country relations.” This could be interpreted to mean that the US will assist further in including China in global affairs.
“I wish to emphasize that China is firmly committed. . .to our position of no confrontation, no conflict, mutual respect, and win-win cooperation with regard to the United States. . .We’ll adopt a more positive attitude and more vigorous actions to strengthen cooperation with the United States.”, said President Xi Jinping in recorded remarks to President Obama.
“We’ll also have the opportunity to discuss economic issues, which are a cornerstone of our relationship, and the importance of our trading relationship and. . .I think it’s fair to say that this bilateral relationship has been as important as any bilateral relationship in the world, and we’ve made great strides.”, President Obama told President Xi Jinping sitting next to him.
Both Presidents were celebrating the 35th anniversary of the opening of diplomatic relations between the US and China.
The International Monetary Fund’s Managing Director, Christine Lagarde was in China praising the country for its latest initiatives incorporating reforms into the economy, while striving for growth China is expanding its pro-green and environmental strategies and Ms. Lagarde was impressed with women entrepreneurs. Managing Director Lagarde met with Premier Li Keqiang and Vice Premier Ma Kai. Ms. Lagarde was involved with a Live Chat using the Sina Weibo, twitter like service.
Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, met with President Xi Jinping in constructive dialog regarding issues in Ukraine. The Secretary-General and President Xi Jinping discussed the “upcoming Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) that will take place in Shanghai in May.”
Mr. Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary General of the UN singled out China for its important role on the Security Council as a permanent member.
