The Group of 77 and China opened up 2014 with statements on:

  • Sustainable cities, human settlements and sustainable transportation. The Group should take a serious look at Masdar City in Abu Dhabi, near the airport on the outskirts of the city in the United Arab Emirates. Cars are not necessary within the city, the city will link up with the Abu Dhabi rail. Masdar City is the greenest city in the world. Beginning in 2014, the United Nations will proclaim October 31st as World Cities Day. The Group estimates that 70% of the globes population will live in cities. Therefore, planning now for this mass movement will necessitate sewage planning, water, power sources, transportation, commerce and dwelling options. Again, serious study should be directed to the experts at Masdar City.
  • Sustainable consumption and sustainable production, along with policy on chemicals and waste. Current projections 9.5 billion people living on earth by 2050. Food consumption and waste will have to be considered for the globes populations. Access to clean water, clothing needs, netting for malaria, disease control, storage of proteins and research in new materials for multiple purposes. Israel is a leader in desalination projects, China has Green-scrubber production practices that could be extended to other parts of the world. Masdar City has considered and conducted research into waste and population needs.
